About us



Bulgarian Art and Folklore Centre Nestiya was founded in 1991. There are blanches and subdivisions in all Sofia districts which use as their headquarters, schools, library clubs, community centres and houses of culture. Up to date there are about 70 folklore groups in kindergartens, schools, cultural and community centers, with more than 1200 participants between 3 and 70 years old, working in folklore centre  Nestiya. A lot of well-known Bulgarian folklore and dancing groups work with folklore centre Nestiya and take part in our activities in  Bulgaria and foreign countries:

  • Folk formation “Nestiya” – dancing group, folk vocal group
  • Folk dance formation “Baklitza” – students’ formation
  • Children’s Dance group “Iskritzi”
  • Children’s Dance group “Bisertche”
  • Professional Folk Group “Lulin”
  • Folk School “Badnina”
  • Folk dance formation “Pirina” – professional folk dance group.

Folklore Centre Nestiya  gives an opportunity to all of the participants to reveal and develop their talent, to perform creatively in concerts, contests, radio and TV programs, competitions and festivals in Bulgaria and abroad.

Many years we are working in common with our partners: Produser’s House “Kukeri”, Bulgarian International Folklore Company, Foundation “About the Folklore”, Impresarios firm “HriStan-IS” and with the support of Produser’s House “Pirina”, Foundation “Bridges” and folklore singer Ilia Lukov, Balkan Alliance of Folklore, Association “Dance formation  Baklitca”,  Association “Panorama – Schools”, Ministry of Science and Education, Ministry of Culture, Town Council of Sofia, Municipality of  Sofia, Association “Folklore Forums” and Bulgarian Association of private schools.

Folklore Centre Nestiya  engages in many  cultural and activities and gives an opportunity to the participants from the different folklore courses, to take part in а consecution of folklore events like:

  • Meeting – contest of the groups of Koledars “Chemshir – Koledarka“ – \Holly Carol singers\
  • Meeting-Competition of the groups of lazars \“Shareno koilo”\ – dances with the accompaniment of   Laser’s Day songs for health, happiness and fertility; St. Laser’s  day – Saturday before Palm Sunday
  • Dancing contest “Love and Wine “ – devoted to the day of Saint Valentine
  • Dancing competition “Hiter Peter” – Tricky Peter
  • Festive concerts-shows and other.

Folklore and art   centre   Nestiya  was a co-organizer of  “The longest horo of the world”, witch joins to the “Guinnes  Records” Book.

Folklore centre   Nestiya  is organizing and taking part in many international folklore festivals and competitions.

Every year we are organizing different international, folklore and art   festivals in Sofia and other towns in Bulgaria.

The duration of the festival usually is three days / Friday, Saturday and Sunday /.  They allow for the expression of groups and  present  Bulgaria as an attractive tourist destination and  a country with vast cultural heritage. Over 50% of the organized festivals are held in Bulgarian resorts towns – Pamporovo, Bansko, Borovets, Balchik, Albena, Golden sands, Sunny beach, Tsarevo,  Sv. Vlas, Obzor,  Sozopol, etc.  The open stages with free access to the audience and in the next   3-5 days   the universal language of music and dance builds cultural bridge  between nations.

During the festival days to learn Bulgarian  songs  and dances. All concerts begin and end with mass “Bulgarian  hora” .  The last day of the festival is held dancing „Krashna   rachenitsa“,  election of Miss and Mister Festival and the participant with the most attractive folk costume.

In 2018 will be implemented 37 festivals across the country, each of them will become an unforgettable experience for all participants and guests.
